What you'll learn
Decent no longer pays
AI has raised the floor. A clean, decent website is now within anyone's reach. The designers who earn well sit above that floor, where clients trust them with the whole job.
- Why most designers now compete on price, and how to step out of it.
- What clients still pay a premium for, even with AI everywhere.
- How to show it in your portfolio and in your first message.
Do both, properly
Most designers only design. Most automation people only automate. Design the site and build the system behind it, and you stop competing with either.
- Why founders now see a beautiful site on its own as cosmetic.
- The system behind the site: requests, qualification, instant replies and booking.
- How to sell it as more booked calls, not a nicer homepage.
- ### Three weeks, one real site
- - Week 1: niche, brief, direction, hero.
- - Fri, Nov 20: live masterclass.
- - Week 2: build it with Claude.
- - Week 3: phone layout, polish, go live.
- - Fri, Dec 4: live showcase.
In three weeks
You pick the niche. I give you the steps I follow for client work. By December 4, you have a live site built for the clients you want.
- How to pick a niche clients actually pay for, so you stop competing with every template.
- How I use Claude as a designer, from first concept to a live site and the system behind it.
- Where your first clients come from, and the outreach I still use myself.
- How to price your work so $10K months come from a few good projects, not dozens of small ones.
About 3 to 4 hours a week. Share your progress in the free WDC community as you go, and bring your questions to the live sessions.
Who's teaching
Everything in this challenge is what I do myself to win work and price it.
- Designing since 2004.
- Clients include Amazon, Fanatics Fest and Emma Grede.
- 16,500 subscribers on YouTube, and 236,000 views on my full web design course.
Is this for you?
It's for you if
- You want to earn from web design, not just learn it.
- You're starting out, switching careers, or stuck below the rates you want.
- You can give it 3 to 4 hours a week for three weeks.
It's not for you if
- You're looking for a shortcut to easy money.
- You only want free templates.
- You'd rather not reach out to a single client.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. The challenge, the community, the masterclass and the showcase are free. The only thing you might pay for is your AI coding tool, below.
How much time does it take?
About 3 to 4 hours a week for three weeks. The lessons stay up, so you can catch up if a week gets busy.
Can't make the live sessions?
Join anyway. Everyone who signs up gets the replays.
Do I need experience?
No. It's built for people starting out or switching careers, and it's useful if you already freelance.
What do I need?
Figma to design, and an AI coding tool, GitHub and Cloudflare to build, on a Mac or Windows computer. I'll use Claude Code, which needs a paid Claude plan, starting with Pro at about $20 a month.
Can I use Codex or another AI tool?
Yes. Codex, Cursor, Antigravity or any of the main AI coding tools will work. The process is the same, only the commands change. I'll walk through Claude Code and can only troubleshoot that one, but the community can help with the rest.
Will you sell something?
At the masterclass I'll explain how the WDC Academy works, for anyone who wants my help finishing their site and landing clients. The challenge stands on its own.
